But I also remember buying "old" cars in the 70s that were usually no more than six or seven years old, and usually had no more that 80-thousand miles on the odometer. I typically paid between three to five hundred for these 'clunkers' back then, and typically got 15 to 20 thousand miles out of one before needing a major repair.
