13 rules of Gunfighting....revised

I ran across this while surfing the web.  I had it saved in a draft format until I had time to add some pictures of it.

13 rules of gunfighting that everyone should know:

1) Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.

2) It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.

3) Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.

4) Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arm’s length.

5) Never say, "I’ve got a gun." The first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.

6) The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes; the response time of a .357 magnum is 1400 feet per second.

7) The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win- cheat if necessary.

8) Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets…you may get killed with your own gun, be he will have to beat you to death with it, because it will be empty.

9) If you are in a gunfight; If you are not shooting, you should be loading. If you are not loading, you should be moving. If you aren’t shooting, moving or loading; you’re probably dead.

10) In a life and death situation, do something…it may be
wrong…but do…something!

11) If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid…Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?

12) You can say ‘stop’ ‘alto’ or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much a universal language.

13) You cannot save the world, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.
"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading"
May America Bess God again!

Air show Disaster...fixed

A friend sent this to me...I figured it would tie in well with the Airbus story on my prior post.

AIRCRAFT HITS FOUR BUILDINGS

This is tough to see. It just shows the dangers of attending these events.

Amazing photo below shows great detail.

The pilot, at low altitude, had no control over his aircraft.

It narrowly misses a crowd gathered for the air show and slams into four buildings.

One can only imagine the horror of the occupants inside those buildings.

No one was killed, but it probably scared the crap out of them.

Final report issued for Quantas Flight 32 Airbus A380

I am publishing some Airbus news instead of politics because my interest is airplanes and I am a bit of a gearhead,  I pulled this article together from several sources including BING, AviationWeek and the Seattle PI

June 27, 2013
Australian safety regulators have issued a final report on the Qantas A380 engine failure and emergency landing on Nov. 4, 2010, including more details about the incident and a review of manufacturing failings at engine-maker Rolls-Royce.
The incident saw flight QF32 return to Singapore’s Changi Airport shortly after takeoff due to an uncontained failure in one of its Trent 900 engines. The cause has already been traced to an oil fire in the engine, resulting from a cracked oil feed pipe in the high pressure/intermediate pressure (HP/IP) hub assembly. The wall width of some oil feed pipes –including the one that cracked on the Qantas aircraft – was found to be thinner than design specifications due to a misaligned bore.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) says in its final report that the crack in the oil pipe resulted from fatigue, and “developed over some time.” The crack became wide enough to allow oil to be released into the buffer space between the bearing chamber and the hot air surrounding the IP turbine disc. The oil was released as an atomized spray, and the air within the buffer space was hot enough for the oil to ignite.
The resulting fire eventually affected the IP turbine disc drive arm, resulting in the separation of the disc from the drive shaft. “Following the separation of the disc, the engine behaved in a manner different to that anticipated by the manufacturer during engine design and testing,” the ATSB says. The disc accelerated to a speed “in excess of its structural capacity” and burst into three main segments, which punctured the engine case.
Regarding Rolls-Royce, the ATSB found that the misalignment of the counter bores in the feed pipes “was the result of movement within the HP/IP bearing support assembly during manufacture and that a number of opportunities existed during the design and manufacture processes where the misaligned oil feed stub pipe counter bores could have been identified and managed.” According to the final report, “those opportunities were missed for a number of reasons, but generally because of ambiguities within the manufacturer’s procedures and the non-adherence by a number of the manufacturing staff to those procedures.”
The factors that led to the mistakes occurred over a number of years, and “highlighted the importance of manufacturers providing clear procedures and of personnel complying with those procedures,” the ATSB says. The safety agency says it has worked with the aircraft and engine manufacturers “to ensure that any identified safety issues were addressed and actions taken to prevent a similar occurrence.”
Responding to the final report, Rolls-Royce says it “supports the conclusions” of the ATSB. “This was a serious and rare event which we very much regret,” says Colin Smith, the manufacturer’s director for engineering and technology. “At Rolls-Royce we continually strive to meet the high standards of safety, quality and reliability that our customers and their passengers are entitled to expect. On this occasion we clearly fell short.”
Smith says Rolls-Royce has “already applied the lessons learned throughout our engineering, manufacturing and quality assurance procedures to prevent this type of event from happening again.” The company says it has also carried out its own investigations to understand and address what went wrong.
Rolls Royce Trent 900 engine, but the concern with the A380 since its days on the drawing board has always been the potential for record-breaking loss of life in the event of a crash.  Consider this; an A380 on order for Air Austral will carry 840 passengers.
But back to the present, the process of stripping down the Qantas A380 that made an emergency return to Singapore’s Changi airport on November 4, has made significant progress as you can see in this photo from the Australian Transportation Safety Board.  The board is reporting that the massive number 2 engine was removed from the wing and is being progressively dismantled at an engine shop in Singapore. But that’s not all.
“A number of wing and body fairing panels have been removed from the aircraft to facilitate the examination of the underlying structure and systems affected by the engine failure,” the board announced on Wednesday.
Now here we are, barely beyond 3 years past the first passenger flight of the A380 and the question being asked is whether the damage wrought by the spinning-out-of-control number 2 engine is so great that Qantas will have to write off the $300 million plane. There’s a huge emotional cost to the term “hull loss”. Nobody wants that less than Airbus, which spent roughly $14 billion developing the  A380 and has firm orders to build 234 of them.
But the list of items that went wrong on the airplane is making lots of folks queasy, and I’m not talking about the passengers here. Airline executives and financiers, along with Rolls Royce and Airbus engineers have been sleeping fitfully for the past 14 days.
I call your attention to the blog Plane Talking.  Blogger Ben Sandilands has scooped everyone with the publication of a PowerPoint presentation by Thomas Montagne, the technical services manager of Airbus. Complete with dramatic photos and graphics, the presentation confirms some of damage to the airplane from shedding pieces of the engine. (Ben adds interesting commentary about the wisdom of engine manufacturer-supplied maintenance, and questions whether there is an inherent conflict of interest when engine suppliers also provide engine service.)
The graphic illustration of the damage to the airplane adds weight to the speculation of folks who have been basing their opinions on passenger videos, news clips and publicly available images of the airplane. My guess is that Ben’s blog stats are going to go stratospheric from the clicks of armchair investigators and aviation enthusiasts.
In the meantime, the Australian newspaper Herald Sun published a list of airplane failures including the loss of one of two hydraulic systems, the loss of control of the left outboard engine, fuel leaks in the left wing tanks and loss of fire control in that same area. The article also suggests that fuel from a tail tank could not be transferred forward. Whether this caused the pilots to moderate how much fuel they dumped from the wings, or if they even had control over the wing tanks isn’t known.
A Boeing 747 pilot explained the problem to me recently by saying, “The big deal is if the tail tank won’t transfer, you have a CG problem. You have to keep fuel in the most-forward fuel tank,” he explained, to balance the aft weight. Clearly the men in the cockpit of Qantas Flight 32 were in a dilemma; land heavy and risk not being able to stop the plane in time, or land tail heavy and risk tank rupture and subsequent fire. Where’s the good choice there?
Dealing with the weight distribution was far from their only problem. My 747-flying friend added, “multiple failures get confusing very fast. You have one or two components fail which cause other components to fail. You’ve got these messages coming up. If you get a couple of those multiple messages its hard to sort out what the real problem is among a blizzard.”
Captain Richard de Crespigny, first officer Matt Hicks and Mark Johnson are to be hailed for finding their way through the storm of malfunctions and bringing that airplane to a safe landing in Singapore. Now its the investigators who find themselves with a blizzard of information. They can be thankful for that. More information should be better than less.  If they are conscientious, if they sort it out, and make the right decisions about what needs to be fixed on the engine and on the airplane, air travelers will have something else to be thankful for.

Drowning don't look like drowning.....

I was reading my blogroll and I saw this over on Wirecutters Blog.  I have a 10 year old who loves the water.  I consider myself a trained adult leader for cub scouts and I didn't know this.  I am cutting and pasting the article in its entirety.

Drowning Doesn’t Look Like Drowning

In many child drownings, adults are nearby but have no idea the victim is dying. Here’s what to look for.

A lifeguard keeps watch on opening day of the newly renovated McCarren Park Pool on June 28, 2012, in Brooklyn, New York.

The new captain jumped from the deck, fully dressed, and sprinted through the water. A former lifeguard, he kept his eyes on his victim as he headed straight for the couple swimming between their anchored sportfisher and the beach. “I think he thinks you’re drowning,” the husband said to his wife. They had been splashing each other and she had screamed but now they were just standing, neck-deep on the sand bar. “We’re fine; what is he doing?” she asked, a little annoyed. “We’re fine!” the husband yelled, waving him off, but his captain kept swimming hard. ”Move!” he barked as he sprinted between the stunned owners. Directly behind them, not 10 feet away, their 9-year-old daughter was drowning. Safely above the surface in the arms of the captain, she burst into tears, “Daddy!”
How did this captain know—from 50 feet away—what the father couldn’t recognize from just 10? Drowning is not the violent, splashing call for help that most people expect. The captain was trained to recognize drowning by experts and years of experience. The father, on the other hand, had learned what drowning looks like by watching television. If you spend time on or near the water (hint: that’s all of us) then you should make sure that you and your crew know what to look for whenever people enter the water. Until she cried a tearful, “Daddy,” she hadn’t made a sound. As a former Coast Guard rescue swimmer, I wasn’t surprised at all by this story. Drowning is almost always a deceptively quiet event. The waving, splashing, and yelling that dramatic conditioning (television) prepares us to look for is rarely seen in real life.
The Instinctive Drowning Response—so named by Francesco A. Pia, Ph.D., is what people do to avoid actual or perceived suffocation in the water. And it does not look like most people expect. There is very little splashing, no waving, and no yelling or calls for help of any kind. To get an idea of just how quiet and undramatic from the surface drowning can be, consider this: It is the No. 2 cause of accidental death in children, ages 15 and under (just behind vehicle accidents)—of the approximately 750 children who will drown next year, about 375 of them will do so within 25 yards of a parent or other adult. In some of those drownings, the adult will actually watch the child do it, having no idea it is happening.* Drowning does not look like drowning—Dr. Pia, in an article in the Coast Guard’s On Scene magazine, described the Instinctive Drowning Response like this:
  1. “Except in rare circumstances, drowning people are physiologically unable to call out for help. The respiratory system was designed for breathing. Speech is the secondary or overlaid function. Breathing must be fulfilled before speech occurs.
  2. Drowning people’s mouths alternately sink below and reappear above the surface of the water. The mouths of drowning people are not above the surface of the water long enough for them to exhale, inhale, and call out for help. When the drowning people’s mouths are above the surface, they exhale and inhale quickly as their mouths start to sink below the surface of the water.
  3. Drowning people cannot wave for help. Nature instinctively forces them to extend their arms laterally and press down on the water’s surface. Pressing down on the surface of the water permits drowning people to leverage their bodies so they can lift their mouths out of the water to breathe.
  4. Throughout the Instinctive Drowning Response, drowning people cannot voluntarily control their arm movements. Physiologically, drowning people who are struggling on the surface of the water cannot stop drowning and perform voluntary movements such as waving for help, moving toward a rescuer, or reaching out for a piece of rescue equipment.
  5. From beginning to end of the Instinctive Drowning Response people’s bodies remain upright in the water, with no evidence of a supporting kick. Unless rescued by a trained lifeguard, these drowning people can only struggle on the surface of the water from 20 to 60 seconds before submersion occurs.”
This doesn’t mean that a person that is yelling for help and thrashing isn’t in real trouble—they are experiencing aquatic distress. Not always present before the Instinctive Drowning Response, aquatic distress doesn’t last long—but unlike true drowning, these victims can still assist in their own rescue. They can grab lifelines, throw rings, etc.
Look for these other signs of drowning when persons are in the water:
  • Head low in the water, mouth at water level
  • Head tilted back with mouth open
  • Eyes glassy and empty, unable to focus
  • Eyes closed
  • Hair over forehead or eyes
  • Not using legs—vertical
  • Hyperventilating or gasping
  • Trying to swim in a particular direction but not making headway
  • Trying to roll over on the back
  • Appear to be climbing an invisible ladder
So if a crew member falls overboard and everything looks OK—don’t be too sure. Sometimes the most common indication that someone is drowning is that they don’t look like they’re drowning. They may just look like they are treading water and looking up at the deck. One way to be sure? Ask them, “Are you all right?” If they can answer at all—they probably are. If they return a blank stare, you may have less than 30 seconds to get to them. And parents—children playing in the water make noise. When they get quiet, you get to them and find out why.

Monday Music "Down Under"

Well here in another installment of Monday Music and I decided on going with "Men at Work" , they are from Australia and their breakout U.S. hit was "Who can it be now" followed by "Down Under".  Since Old NFO is down under, perhaps he might want to get a vegamite sandwich. while he is down there.

"Down Under" (also known as "Land Down Under") is a Platinum-certified single recorded by Australian new wave rock group Men at Work. It was initially released in October 1981 as the second single from their debut album Business as Usual (1981).
The song went to number one in their home country of Australia in December 1981, and then topped the New Zealand charts in February 1982. Released in North America in mid-1982, the song topped the Canadian charts in October. After initially being ignored in the US, the song then charted in America some months later, finally hitting the top spot - for four weeks - in January and February 1983. In America the song entered the charts on 6 November 1982 at 79, taking 10 weeks to climb to #1.[citation needed]
In the UK, the song topped the charts in January and February 1983, and is the only Men at Work song to make the UK top 20. The song also went No. 1 in Ireland, Denmark and Switzerland, and was a top 10 hit in many other territories. It has become a popular and patriotic song in Australia.

The lyrics are about an Australian traveller circling the globe, proud of his nationality, and about his interactions with people he meets on his travels who are interested in his home country.
One of the verses refers to Vegemite sandwiches, among other things; the particular lyric "He just smiled and gave me a Vegemite sandwich" has become a well-known phrase.
Slang and drug terms are used in the lyrics:
Travelling in a fried-out Kombi, on a hippie trail, head full of zombie.
Here "fried-out" means overheated,Kombi refers to the Volkswagen Type 2 combination van,and having "a head full of zombie" refers to the use of a type of marijuana. Cultural slang is also used: after the second verse the refrain is "where the beer does flow and men chunder"; "chunder" means vomit.

I wonder if I will get a visit from the Department of Justice for "hate Speech" for posting this picture.  I saw it online a while back.  I keep a folder on the 'puter full of cartoons and pics that I run across that I believe are "Blogworthy" or I use the pic or cartoons  to accentuate a story that I picked up or a rant that I am on.

Here is why you never talk to the FBI without an attorney present.

I had gotten this from a link and it did make an indelible impression on me.  I have told people in the past, "Never talk to the feds or the police without a lawyer present."  Most of the law enforcement community are honorable but it would suck to be you if you got snared up by a bad one.  I don't tell this to people because I am anti-police or anything like that.  My dad is a retired cop and he told me this many times.  District Attorneys unlike "Law and Order" and other shows are not really interested in Justice...Just convictions.  there are soo many people in the system for miscues when dealing with the authorities.  You are just a small wheel in the Criminal Justice system and you would get crushed and they move on to the next one. The state has the ability to deprive you of your property, your freedom and even your life.  A good lawyer will make sure that you are not unfairly prosecuted for things that you didn't do.  By the time you get it straighten out, you may already be spending time at club Fed, lost your job, perhaps your family and have this stigma that will follow you around for the rest of your life.
I had a friend spend time in the lockup a few years ago, he at my advice had gotten a good attorney and while he was in the county jail, he told me that there were a lot of people in jail that try to be cheap and go the "public defender" route.  They get their cases pleaded down instead of dismissed because the Public defender has this huge caseload and he is trying to work them as fast as he can.  They are human and can get overwhelmed.

Here is the video, it is about 7 minutes long and worth the watch.

Military Humor and staff quotes....

I decided to take a break for a day from all the blogging about the NSA spying on us, the IRS targeting us, the DOJ scoping us, the FBI blowing off any questions about the IRS targeting us, we have the DHS buying up ammo at a prolific rate and targeting us as "Extremist"., we have the HHS secretary with the epitome of "death panels" quotes about us, we have the EPA making more rulings that circumvent the rule of law about us......well crap I am sure I forgot a few....dozen alphabet agencies that believe that we have to be ruled by the elitist because we are too stupid to take care of ourselves...on the other hand.
Perhaps the fall of America was assured when the education of our children was turned over to the very entity that was feared the most by our founders..the Government .
Perhaps the downfall was assured when Woodrow Wilson 30 years later inserted the word "Democracy" into the popular lexicon for the first time.
Perhaps our hopes are dashed by politicians of a certain political party Communist,Heathen,Godless, Leftist,, Marxist assholes that put their political future above the country Democrats who fight voter I.D. laws because they would benefit from the casting of votes by non-Americans.
Perhaps when we awoke on November 7th and realized that the clueless dumbed down low information
Or maybe we should all have recognized that the end was approaching when we woke up last November 7th to find that the voters of this country had put the community-organizing jerk Barack 0bama back into office for the second time.  There is no way a country based on liberty and self-reliance can survive an electorate stupid enough to put a sorry anti-American SOB like 0bama back into office.  - See more at: http://www.boortz.com/weblogs/nealz-nuze/2013/jun/19/you-might-not-want-read/#sthash.4Qenm4EN.dpuf

Surely Americans should have recognized that hope was lost when the lie started spreading about a “right to vote” in presidential elections.

.voters, reelected a community activist that loves to take vacations and play golf and cater to the democrat base rather than represent all of us.  How can a country based on self-reliance and liberty  survive an electorate stupid enough to put a sorry assed  anti-American SOB like Obama back into office.

Well I saw this cartoon surfing around the internet.  I remembered something like this at the Flight Operations building in Ansbach Germany with the Ist Armored Division  in 1987 when I went there for training with my MOS on loan from the 1st Infantry Division.

More Government support for the Obama Administration.

I have stated in past post that the active assistance of government agencies of a president is dangerous to the republic.  We went to a merit type system to prevent government jobs being tied to political patronage as was the past system like the Tammany Hall system of patronage.  Now we have government agencies in active support for certain candidates and certain political parties.  This will cause a further disconnect where we have government that will actively target certain groups.  When people have faith no longer in their vote or ability to vote without being persecuted will cause a farther chasm in the political system.  When people believe that they have no say any longer in the voting process, they will start doing other things from going Galt to civil disobedience to active resistance and possible revolt.

Thanks to the TaxProf blog and to Instapundit, I discovered this chart detailing political giving by government lawyers:
With certain limitations understood (we don’t know the affiliations of non-donors), the chart above looks more like the political affiliations of Ivy League women’s-studies departments than those of an allegedly impartial federal bureaucracy.
The civil-service system was designed to replace the spoils system, which — in addition to creating chaotic rushes of office-seekers with each change of administration — packed political hacks into important administrative positions. A civil service was supposed to change that unacceptable reality by placing the administration of the more neutral functions of the government into the hands of dispassionate professionals. Thus the strong federal job security in the civil service, greater security than enjoyed by virtually any private-sector employee. The job security — so the argument goes — was necessary to prevent the re-emergence of blatant political patronage.
But what if the combination of increasingly activist government with strong bureacratic bias re-creates federal service as a kind of permanent spoils system for the Left? Isn’t it inevitable that this leftist bureaucracy will eventually view itself not as a servant for all citizens but as an instrument of its own righteous ideology?
If the recent history of our universities is any guide, the products of a leftist bureacratic monoculture will be characterized by the following:
Ignorance: Groups of like-minded people are notoriously incurious about the ideas and perspectives of dissenters.
Condescension: They don’t let ignorance stand in the way of a bulletproof sense of moral and intellectual superiority.
Hatred: Since all the good people they know agree with them, they ascribe the worst of motives to the other side, believing them to be motivated by little more than greed and bigotry.
And, finally . . .
Fanaticism: Cass Sunstein described the ”Law of Group Polarization like this: “In a striking empirical regularity, deliberation tends to move groups, and the individuals who compose them, toward a more extreme point in the direction indicated by their own predeliberation judgments.” In other words, when like-minded individuals deliberate, their common views grow more extreme over time.
We conservatives have a problem with Big Government, no matter who’s running it. But we also have a particular problem with this big government, as key agencies are increasingly staffed and run by individuals who wield enormous power, cannot be fired, and despise roughly half the American population. When Barack Obama urges supporters to “PUNISH OUR ENEMIES,” there are many federal employees only too willing to comply.

Monday Music "Someone is watching me...." by Rockwell

I am doing a segment of my "Monday Music" and I decided to use a song in deference to the NSA openly spying on the American public.

"Somebody's Watching Me" is the debut single by R&B artist Rockwell, released on the Motown label in 1984. The song's lyrics relate the narrator's paranoid fear of being followed and watched. It featured former Motown artists Michael Jackson on the chorus and Jermaine Jackson on additional backing vocals.[2] A clip of the song was remixed and released on Michael Jackson's Immortal album in 2011, with parts of songs such as "Is It Scary", "Threatened" and "Monster".

m
Rockwell is the son of Motown CEO Berry Gordy Jr. At the time of the recording Rockwell was estranged from his father and living with Ray Singleton, his father's ex-wife. Singleton served as executive producer on the project and would occasionally play some demo tracks to Berry Gordy. The elder Gordy was less than enthusiastic about Rockwell's music until he heard the single with a familiar voice featured prominently on background vocals.[2][3]
Produced by Curtis Anthony Nolen, the song featured backing vocals by ex-Motown artist Michael Jackson and Alan Murray on percussion.[2][4] "Somebody's Watching Me" peaked at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1984, and reached the top of the Billboard R&B singles chart, as well as reaching number six on the UK Singles Chart.
Due in part to the popularity of the music video, the song is sometimes used for Halloween celebrations, with cover versions found in various collections of Halloween music.

Music video

The single's music video underscores the song's paranoid tone with a haunted house-inspired theme, including imagery of floating heads, ravens, graveyards, and shower scenes referencing the novel Psycho. The mailman who appears in the music video for "Somebody's Watching Me" also stars in the video for "Obscene Phone Caller". This was a low budget video. Music video produced by The Wolfe Company, directed by Francis Delia, cinematography by Dominic Sena, production manager: Jason Braunstein, production coordinator: Jon Leonoudakis. Leonoudakis appears in the video as the visual metaphor "watching" Rockwell through the porthole of the front door.

The U.S. Government...What we wish....and what it has become...

I saw this surfing the web, but due to my wacky schedule I was unable to post it until now.  With Cub day camp 2013 over, my schedule will return to a sense of normalcy....or something like that.

This is the image we have of Uncle Sam that I remember from growing up and the way my parents and grand parents spoke.  This represents the America that lives in our dreams and ideals.

This is what the government has become.  When the President of the United States or his lackeys are able to use the organs of the state to harass their political opponants and intimidate them, there is something wrong with this picture.  This is the policy of the banana republics and other 3rd world shitholes to do stuff like this.

I am sure I have missed a few other government agencies that assisted the Obama administration in their re-election efforts.

Monday Music, "the Boys of Summer"

This is the latest installment of my "Monday Music".  I decided to go with my favorite song since I have to get up in the A.M to get ready for another day of range master at Cub Day camp.

I couldn't locate the exact video, so I had to go with this compilation of best video's of 1984.  Sometimes youtube has it...sometimes they don't

"The Boys of Summer" is a song released in 1984 by former Eagles vocalist and drummer Don Henley, with lyrics written by Henley and music composed by Henley and Mike Campbell.
It is the lead track and first single from Henley's 1984 album Building the Perfect Beast and reached the top five in the United States as well as the top position on the Top Rock Tracks chart. The song's music video won many awards. "The Boys of Summer" was also performed live by Henley with the reunited Eagles; such a version is included on the group's 2005 Farewell 1 Tour-Live from Melbourne DVD.

History

Henley's song has a haunting rhythm and timbre,[clarification needed] cemented by Campbell's 1-7-5 repetitive riff over a vi-IV-V-IV chord pattern. Superficially, the song appears to be about the passing of youth and entering middle age, with the theme of 'summer love' apparent in the choruses, and of reminiscence of a past relationship.[1]
In a 1987 interview with Rolling Stone, Henley explained that the song is more about aging and questioning the past[2]—a recurring theme in Henley's lyrics (cf. "The End of the Innocence",[3] and "Taking You Home".[4])
In an interview with NME in 1985, Henley explained the 'Deadhead sticker on a Cadillac' lyrics as an example of his generation selling out:
"I was driving down the San Diego freeway and got passed by a $21,000 Cadillac Seville, the status symbol of the Right-wing upper-middle-class American bourgeoisie – all the guys with the blue blazers with the crests and the grey pants – and there was this Grateful Dead 'Deadhead' bumper sticker on it!"[5][6]
In an interview with Knoxville.com, Neil Giraldo, Pat Benatar's guitarist and husband, says that Henley came in the studio while he was in the process of recording the song "Love Is a Battlefield" using an up tempo beat, and asked Giraldo if he could steal the sound for use in his song, "The Boys of Summer", to which Giraldo gave his permission.[7]

Accolades

"The Boys of Summer" reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 and topped the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart for five weeks. It was also a hit in the United Kingdom, reaching number 12 on the UK Singles Chart. A re-release of the single in 1998 also reached #12.
In 1986, Henley won the Grammy Award for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance for the song.[8]
"The Boys of Summer" was ranked #416 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.

Music video

The music video to "The Boys of Summer" is a French New Wave-influenced piece directed by Jean-Baptiste Mondino. Shot in black-and-white, it shows the main character of the song at three different stages of life (as a young boy, a young adult and middle-aged), in each case reminiscing about the past relationship. This is shown during the line "A little voice inside my head said don't look back, you can never look back" at which point, each of the three people look back in turn. The young boy in the video, played by seven year old Josh Paul,[9] resembles a young Don Henley. The girl in the music video is played by Audie England. The cutaways of the "boys" jumping in the air appear to have been influenced by the 1938 film Olympia.[citation needed] Interspersed with these scenes are segments of Henley miming the words of the song while driving in a convertible. At its conclusion, the video uses the post-modern concept of exposing its own workings, as with a wry expression Henley drives the car away from a rear projection screen.
The video won the Video of the Year at the 1985 MTV Video Music Awards (leading Henley to comment at the Awards the following year that he had won for "riding around in the back of a pickup").[10] It also won that year's awards for Best Direction, Best Art Direction, and Best Cinematography. The Best Direction award was presented to Mondino by Henley's then-former Eagles bandmate Glenn Frey.

Obama administration and the IRS

In the past five years of the rule of 0bama (his words, not mine), we have seen in vivid detail just how our current tax system can serve the political goals of a despotic elected official.
Throughout his years in the White House 0bama has used our income tax as a bludgeon to attack high-achievers.  This he has done to exploit wealth envy. In the beginning 0bama was constantly stating that the rich needed to pay their “fair share” of taxes, never addressing just exactly what a “fair share” might actually be.  Later his rhetoric changed; he started flatly stating that the rich, particularly the top one percent of income earners, were not paying their “fair share.”  The 0bamaMedia protected him all the way .. never once asking him just what percentage of all income the evil top one-percent earned (averaging 17%), and what percentage of total income taxes collected they paid (averaging 38%).  The idea that the top one percent wasn’t paying their “fair share” was a complete myth, the media knew it, but the first black president had to be protected at all costs; after all, he was, as Evan Thomas of Newsweek said, “sort of a God.”
Then things got even uglier.  0bama became alarmed that grass roots efforts were springing up around the country to fight the encroachment of big government on their lives and their livelihoods.  Many of these groups used the name “Tea Party” while others adopted titles with words offensive to liberals such as “patriot” and “freedom.”  0bama announced to his myrmidons and to the fawning 0bamaMedia that these groups were a “threat to democracy.”  Can you guess what happened then?  Somehow, and 0bama would have us believe it’s just a coincidence; the IRS started targeting these groups when they applied, as they had every legal right to do, for their tax-exempt status.  The extent of the IRS abuse was astounding; even to the point of asking the members of these groups for the content of their daily prayers.
The 0bama junta, as they’re accustomed to doing, blamed the IRS abuses on “rogue agents” in Cincinnati.  As every day passes we come to a clearer understanding that the order for the IRS to target conservative groups came straight from the White House.  Nixon faced impeachment for lesser abuses involving the IRS.  Nixon, though, was white and thus didn’t have the shield of accusations of racism to hide behind.
