Last Weekend Camping.

We had planned a "Boy Scout Troop Shooting Weekend" and everybody bailed on us due to various reasons, I was going to be the instructor because I am NRA certified for Rifle, Shotgun and Pistol so I can teach the merit badge.  We were going to go and get the kids that didn't have the merit badge, get the merit badge.   So the Scoutmaster and Myself went anyway.....We already had the Range reserved, had the ammo from council, I had taken the day before from work so I could roll my schedule. Like we needed an excuse to go camping....and shooting....LOL

         The Arrival at Camp,

I slept in one of those, and ran a drop cord for power for my charger and CPAP machine....and a drop light with a "yellow" bug light, and the scoutmaster set up his hammock, he likes to hammock camp...I can't do that..My back would die, LOL

                      Getting ready to grill out......

We then grilled the steaks, they have been marinating for 7 hours before we threw them on the grill.  We always eat well as a matter of principle, we always show the kids(not in this case, LOL) that you can eat really well if you plan properly.

           The "Garnishing" for the Steaks...

                                                                The Vegetables

                                                     What "Dinner" looked Like

Then we set the little grill in front of us while we watched a movie, and a bit of a backstory, Both the Scoutmaster and myself are the most experienced scouters in the troop, and we both forgot to bring a jacket...and it got down to the high 50's.  So the fire was nice.  He did have a poncho liner though, and we fed logs into the little grill all night and the lid reflected heat to us and it worked.

We watched the Mel Gibson Movie "We Were Soldiers" and it reminded me how cool of a movie it was, especially since both of us are Army veterans, and I have more of a kinship with the Army back then than I do with the Modern Army, if that makes sense.

The next morning,    I made my coffee, the little gizmo does work....It literally forces the hot water through the "K" cups and I have "Coffee"

"Reloads" for my Little coffee press.

                               Yep Breakfest, Gotta eat good...

We were shooting .22LR Rifles and Pistols and had a blast.  I also sighted in the Camp Rangers Savage .22LR Semi-auto with a scope.  it was a nice rifle, I should have snagged a picture of it but I didn't.  Finished shooting.  Returned to camp, packed up our stuff, and put it under the pavilion.

We then gone to the "BlackBird Cafe" in Woodsbury Georgia, and grabbed dinner

We then loaded the truck up and got ready to return to civilization.  We will plan another troop shooting trip, but next time, if more people come....Great!...if not....We will do the same thing.

Saturday Activities

I will continue to post my "Red Storm Rising" equipment on Tuesday.  I spent the weekend setting up and running a range for the district camporee.  I was out there Friday and Saturday setting up, running and then staying Saturday night for the campfire and the resulting camaraderie
Here was some of the troops shooting.

My troop did all its adult cooking via "Dutch Oven"  here was the breakfast I had, it was called "Mountain Man" breakfast.  It was 2 packages of southern hash browns, 1 pound of sausage crumbles, 1 pound of bacon, 4 eggs and some cheese....man it was good.
I had my phone charger/drink cooler out there...
Some call them "trucks", lol
We also had dinner, it was "chicken Pot pie" in a dutch oven.
It was a real good time and the weather was real cooperative, overall.  We have had spring camporees that it was below freezing, or the wind was blowing tents across the field or it was raining sideways.  Although the weather rock did show that it rained Saturday Night.

And finally I got some swag from my brother.

Weekend musings and other pithy stuff

Well my hand is doing better, I am able to grab things and type on the keyboard now.

So far the procedure has been a lot easier than the left hand was.  I used percocett the first day and switched to Advil gel-caps after that.  Call me a wus, I don't like narcotic drugs....
We are going camping.....again....this time for fall Ordeal.  My hand will be in a brace so I can't do much....except boss kids around...:)  and that ain't a bad thing.
Now I have some pithy comments to make, the pics are compliments of "Facebook, Google and my stash folder on my laptop.  What can I say...I like Pictures :)
Apparently Obama can't be disturbed from his golf game to visit the people in Louisiana from the flooding.   Remember back in 2005, Bush got lambasted by the press for visiting 2 days and doing a flyby and the delayed reaction of FEMA.  Well in 2016, there is no FEMA involvement at all on the local level.
The media has been silent about this, Apparently since the governor and mayor are democrats, there is no story there.  The simpleminded bias focus of the media is astounding.
   Speaking of media...
CNN got busted  again editing tapes.  When the sister of the guy that got capped was on the media, she had quoted "
“Don’t bring the violence here and the ignorance here,” Smith is heard saying during CNN’s version.
An unedited video of speech began to circulate online, however, revealing the entire content of Smith’s speech and the vast difference in what she actually said as compared to CNN’s version.
In the unedition version, Smith was recorded saying the following to the rioters:"
“Burnin down s–t ain’t going to help nothin! Y’all burnin’ down s–t we need in our community. Take that s–t to the suburbs. Burn that s–t down! We need our s–t! We need our weaves. I don’t wear it. But we need it.”
What CNN reported as a call for “peace” was instead a call for riots to take place in more affluent neighborhoods so the inner-city community wouldn’t get destroyed.
Twitter users spread clips of a side-to-side comparison to show how CNN chose to ignore the hateful comments and only paint Smith in a positive light. The news network was slammed for its apparent bias by multiple people online.

With knowledge of the incident spreading quickly — thanks to social media — CNN anchor Carol Costello made an on-air apology Wednesday.
“I regret the second part of that statement was not included,” she said before cutting to commercial break.
CNN also posted a tweet Wednesday that didn’t use words such as “apology” or “regret,” but stated the editing was “unintentional.”
Needless to say, not everyone was buying the network’s version of what happened with the edit.
Many people are catching CNN and the other mainstream media shamelessly tilting the news in favor of Clinton, when an announcer made the comment that "We are working on her behalf to see that she gets elected."

Besides making sure that he stays on Vacation, The Obama Administration has made the news again,
Obama's white house admitted that the 400 million that they paid Iran was for the ransom of the people held there.  Nothing like funding the next 5 years of terrorism out of that place.  That we will get back in spades...
And finally have you noticed the people that have been dying lately around Hillary Clinton...?

People that are relating to the Wikileaks the DNC staffer that got capped and also the Iranian Scientist whose name was mentioned in the email got hung by Iran for "Treason", for helping the United States with the Iranian Nuke program and others have mysteriously "died".

And speaking of Hillary,  her election team made the statement that "when she is elected President, the Clinton foundation will no longer accept foreign money or Donor money......Really?

The most distrusted politician in America...like we expect her to follow through on anything she says...

Y'all have a good one and I will post some stuff on Sunday when I return from camping....again.

Rest of camp..

Last week I posted on my blog stories about summer camp with the Boy Scouts.  Here are the rest of the adventures....and next week I am going with my other troop to summer camp so I will try to post some stuff in the que.  I am not sure how good the internet will be at this camp I am going.  I have been there before but my other troop hasn't.  The other troop is a newer treoop and this is its first trip outside council so it is a big stepping stone for the troop.
On Friday we had a scoutmaster dutch oven cookoff.  Cooking with a dutch oven is very neat, educational and filling. *urp*   The scoutmaster that was representing us made a cherry dump cake.  Basically you need 2 sticks of butter, one can of crushed pineapples, one bag of coconut flakes, one can of pie filling and one box of white cake mix.  Open everything and dump it into dutch oven and then cook it over the coals for 1 hour.  We then took the dutch oven to the cook off...
  There were appitizers, ..
 There was main courses....

and desserts
One troop had made "potato Surprise", basically a bunch of new potato's in a dutch oven with some butter and onions.......and then meat loaf......Man talk about my two favorite comfort foods :).  Plus desserts.  And the fellowship was great!  We finished there and slowly headed to camp to escort the troop to the mess hall...
after what we ate, we didn't want to go the the messhall....which was serving "camp" food.  while I was there I earned another "Scoutmaster Merit Badge".

The boys on Friday worked what they called the Mountain Man relay" including scout skills...
The scenery was awesome, the smokie mountains are really beautiful
and the streams that were cutting through camp
we did have a lot of......you guessed it....Rain, the last 3 days we had a lot of rain.
the campside stayed wet the last 3 days...
But the fire my son and a couple of the other pyro's started kept burning......
All in all it was a very good camp....and we would go again..

The adventures continues.......at camp

We are still in camp here in the Smokey
mountains,  The scenery is very cool...if you are into trees and mountains..

I went back to "Boonesboro to walk around and I ducked into the leatherwork shoppe

Watching a belt being crafted for one of the scouts.
Yesterday we headed off location so the kids could get the "horsemanship" merit badge.
We got there as this was rolling in....

The kids were able to get some riding in...
There was much more about horses discussed, the class on parts and care of horses
Although I think Old NFO could teach the class since he was around with horses before airplanes came onto the scene.
The camp is very busy, the parade field in front of the messhall Dining facility is always full of scouts playing.
And back at camp, the scouts are working on their "Paul Bunyan Woodsman" award....Even though they don't know it yet...
I am glad we came out here, but I will be glad to come home though, cots today have been designed by Marquis De Sade,   I can't believe that I used to sleep on those things back when I was a scout and then a G.I
