Why do democrats want to disarm the law-abiding citizens, especially when you know that the occupy idiots and the anarchist and other leftist groups will be protesting the dreaded GOP, and the democrat mayor wants to disarm the law-abiding.   Really...? the law abiding will obey the law that is what they do, the occupy idjits and other fellow travelers regularly break the law and flaunt it in the process.  I am glad that the governor veto'ed the suggestion.

Chalk one up for Florida’s Governor Rick Scott.
It seems that Governor Scott and Tampa Mayor Bob Buckhorn butted beads recently over concealed carry laws during the RNC convention. Buckhorn is a Democrat. This means that he has a limited appreciation of the Constitution in general, and especially the 2nd Amendment. So now the mayor of Tampa had requested a temporary ban on handguns in downtown Tampa during the RNC convention. This means he wants people with concealed carry permits to be forbidden from carrying their guns in Tampa during the convention. While Buckhorn admits that the city will be filled with demonstrators – and the same kind of thugs you’ve seen in various American cities over the past few days. Buckhorn has no plans to make sure these people – the thugs and anarchists -- aren’t armed. But he can make sure law-abiding Floridians aren’t armed by suspending their concealed carry rights.
Well … things didn’t work out the way Buckhorn wanted. Governor Rick Scott got in the way. Scott has denied Buckhorn’s request for a temporary ban, saying that it “would surely violate the Second Amendment.” Dang those Republicans? Why are they always bringing the Constitution into these things? Scott goes on to say, “It is unclear how disarming law-abiding citizens would better protect them from the dangers and threats posed by those who would flout the law …. It is at just such times that the constitutional right of self defense is most precious and must be protected from government overreach.”
Good for him! The citizens and visitors in Tampa will be all the safer with legal concealed weapons owners on the streets. The stats show that these people are not the ones who go on to commit crimes. The people who commit crimes are those who seek to take advantage of citizens disarmed by a nanny government like that sought by Bob Buckhorn.
Buckhorn says that the city will “look silly” because water guns, sticks, poles and portable shields have been banned from downtown Tampa during the convention. I would like for Bob Buckhorn to try and explain how one would be better equipped to defend himself from one of Tampa’s finest urban youths with a water gun versus a real one.
