The Army/Navy Store....

I ran across this from the "Art of Manliness", I check out that site and it has some interesting tidbits of information.   When I was a kid living in Alabama, my dad was stationed at Fort McClellen with the CID office there.  There was a surplus store I would go into when I had a chance, I would get lost in all the cool surplus stuff they had laying around.  When we moved to Georgia when my dad got transferred to Fort Gillam, there was a surplus store in Forest Park I would go into.  I remembered pricing an LBE(Load Bearing Equipment) and a helmet.  It came up to $40 and to a kid, that was a LOT of money...well I am an adult(egads) and I still think $40 is a lot of money.  But I would go in there and walk around and buy books and some warsaw pact surplus.  I remembered buying a Vietnam era cover for my steel pot that I had since the Alabama days at the same Forest Park Army/Navy store.

I also bought the liner that goes inside it.  The store is still there but the prices are not "surplus" anymore.  Bummer, I attribute it to the GWOT and the "prepper" movement.  When a lot of people are buying gear for the TEOTWAWKI and there is a lot of Chinese knockoff stuff in there, but it is better to look at something and touch it rather than buy it online.  I got burned buying a "assault pack" from an outfit called "epicdeals.com" it was on facebook.  Well the item was a cheap Chinese knockoff and it was a piece of crap.  Granted it would up being $29.99 including shipping.  For $60  I could have bought the real McCoy at the surplus store and saved me the annoyance of pissing away my hard earned money.  I still go there and peruse around to see what they got.  That is the place I went to to get the patches for my "bump" cap that my employer makes us wear.

 I don't want to see "surplus stores " go out of business, it is almost like treasure hunting.  I still take my son in there and he likes looking at the stuff they have.  But sometimes it does makes me feel old when I see stuff that was issued after I got out and it is considered "surplus".     I will continue to go until they are not there anymore. 

The Rise and Fall of the Army Surplus Store

You’ve probably been to an army surplus store.
They all look pretty much the same wherever you live. Surplus stores can be found in strip malls in the rough part of town or as stand-alone warehouse-style buildings with corrugated metal roofing and very few windows. They’re easy to miss while driving because they typically only announce themselves with a small yellow sign emblazoned with “Army Surplus” in black lettering.
When you walk in, your nose is met with that distinct army surplus smell: musty canvas mixed with metal and rubber. Flags hang from the ceiling — an American flag, flags from the different branches of the military, a “Don’t Tread on Me” flag. Every conceivable space in the store is filled with product. You’ll see bins scattered throughout the floor filled with gas masks, canvas duffle bags, canteens, and nylon combat belts. Shelves are jam-packed with combat boots, cargo pants, and helmets. And the coat racks are stuffed with pea coats and camo as far as the eye can see. Inside the glass case of the front counter, you’re likely to find antique military items like Nazi paraphernalia, guns used during WWI, and a plethora of knives.
For decades, the army-navy surplus store was the go-to place for individuals looking to find a good deal on products to outfit themselves for camping or hunting, prepare for the apocalypse on the cheap, or simply pick up a stylish pea coat at a bargain price.
There was such a glut of military surplus clothing and gear in the United States during the 20th century you could practically throw a rock in any direction and hit an army surplus store. They were prolific and played a vital role in distributing an over-abundance of government-issued supplies that accumulated during the last century’s wars.
But if you’ve visited an army surplus store lately, you probably noticed they just aren’t what they used to be — that the quality and quantity of the selection of products isn’t the same.
What happened to the once venerable tradition of the army surplus store?
Today we’ll chart its rise and fall.

The Rise of the Army Surplus Store

The army-navy surplus store as we know it today got its start after the Civil War. Up until then, the U.S. government didn’t need to buy supplies in mass quantities for its troops, as it used a militia system for defense. Individual states and militia members themselves were responsible for getting outfitted for battle.
That changed with the War Between the States. War-making became more centralized and industrialized. Instead of relying on states and individuals to provide the gear needed to fight, both the Confederacy and the Union leveraged mass production to equip their troops (the latter having the industrial advantage in this area).
At the end of the war, there was a huge surplus of arms, uniforms, and horse tack sitting on shelves and in warehouses collecting dust. To recoup some of the costs of these leftovers, the U.S. government began auctioning off the supplies in bulk to civilians at heavily discounted prices. While small storeowners from around the country took advantage of these deals, one man in particular turned military surplus into a giant business empire, ultimately creating the business model of the army surplus store we recognize today. His name was Francis Bannerman.

The Bannerman Army-Navy Surplus Empire

Francis Bannerman was born in Scotland in 1851 but immigrated to New York with his family as a child. His father made a living selling goods acquired at auctions, and a young Francis often accompanied him to these sales where he’d pick up big lots of various knick-knacks himself, and then sell them in smaller lots to stores. It was the 19th-century version of eBay-esque arbitrage. On top of this little side hustle, Bannerman created a profitable business selling scrap metal and abandoned ships that he found in the harbor near Brooklyn, New York. All while he was still in primary school.
At the end of the Civil War in 1865, Francis (who, let’s keep in mind, was only 14 years old) used profits from his scrap metal business to acquire large lots of military surplus at government auctions. One particularly successful acquisition netted him over 11,000 captured Confederate guns. Because the teenage entrepreneur bought this gear at such heavily discounted prices, he was able to mark it up so the products remained a bargain for the customer, while still netting himself a nice profit.

Francis kept all his military surplus inventory in various places around New York City, but eventually consolidated it all in one store on Broadway in Manhattan: the world famous Bannerman’s Army & Navy Outfitters. Known simply as “Bannerman’s,” the store eventually grew to cover a block in length and seven floors in height, encompassing over 40,000 square feet of floor space. It also issued a 350+ page Sears-Roebuck-like catalog from which subscribers around the globe could mail-order horse saddles, swords, African spears, Civil War rifles, and even cannons if they fancied.

Explorers, military commanders, and adventurers of all kinds were some of Bannerman’s biggest clients. Admiral Matthew C. Perry and Frederick Cook outfitted their expeditions using Bannerman’s catalog. Mercenary soldiers fighting in the Spanish-American War and conflicts in the British empire would go to Bannerman’s to get the arms and gear they needed before heading to battlefields abroad.
In the latter quarter of the 19th century, Bannerman continued his prolific military surplus buying. The Spanish-American War was a particular boon to Bannerman’s business, as he won several bids on thousands of captured Spanish rifles and millions of rounds of ammunition, and ended up acquiring 90% of the war’s surplus.
Whenever the military switched to a new kind of uniform, weapon, or equipment, Bannerman was there to scoop up the discarded models and bring them back to NY. By 1900, he had run out of space in his colossal Army & Navy Outfitters store, and didn’t deem it safe to store his cache of thirty million surplus munitions cartridges in the city. So, he bought an island on the Hudson River upon which to build a large storage facility. Styled like a Scottish castle, the surplus warehouse was constructed out of cement (that he acquired at auction, of course) and was accompanied on the island by a residence for Bannerman and his family.

As global conflict increased in the early 20th century, Bannerman’s was there to supply the armies of nations around the world. For example, the Japanese military shopped at the surplus store to stockpile arms and munitions during the Russo-Japanese War. African and South American countries engaging in wars of independence were also big customers for Bannerman. When the United States found itself in WWI and short of supplies, he gave the military the guns and munitions needed to help bootstrap the war effort.
After Bannerman died in 1918, his surplus empire began to crumble, both literally and figuratively. Huge piles and stacks of firearms, bullets, artillery shells, swords, and uniforms began to molder and gather dust in his Manhattan store and island arsenal. The cache was not only disorganized, but dangerous; in 1920, 200 tons of shells and powder exploded inside a building on the island’s storage complex.
While his family continued the Bannerman business, mail-order and retail sales began to dwindle in the 1930s. Unlike the Civil War, there wasn’t much military surplus after WWI, due to the United States’ comparatively limited, short-term involvement in the conflict. So Bannerman’s was relegated to continuing to primarily sell their 19th-century wares, for which there was naturally diminishing demand.
What’s more, federal and state firearms acts passed in the 1930s prevented Bannerman’s from selling military weapons to civilians, as well as to foreign countries. Consequently, the enormous arsenal of weaponry Francis Bannerman had accumulated during his lifetime became useless.

While Bannerman’s family continued to use and periodically visit their island, it was all but abandoned in 1950 when the only ferry which serviced its shores sunk in a storm. Interest in the business waned at the same time. None of Bannerman’s descendants wanted to continue running the Broadway store, so the decision was made in 1959 to sell the famous institution and move the remaining inventory to a warehouse on Long Island where it was still sold through the catalog. By the 1970s, even Bannerman’s catalog sales ceased.

The Golden Age of Army Surplus Stores

While Bannerman’s Army & Navy Outfitters faded into obscurity, it provided the blueprint for the thriving military surplus industry that sprung up after World War II. Rationing on the home front and the enormous amount of excess government-issued equipment produced by America’s “arsenal of democracy” combined to explode the growth and popularity of surplus stores in the aftermath of the Big One; huge amounts of wartime leftovers flooded the market, and after years of deprivation the public was eager to get its hands on it.

Like Bannerman’s, surplus stores after WWII not only offered products through brick and mortar stores but by mail-order as well. Even a jeep. Surplus companies often placed ads in boys’ magazines; young men, who idolized returning GIs, prized anything and everything they had used — even gas masks, which were marketed as “A sensational toy value” and “Loads of fun and useful, too.”

Enterprising businessmen from around the country followed the example Bannerman set after the Civil War by buying massive lots of the surplus military gear that existed in the aftermath of WWII. At a single auction, a buyer could get all the inventory he needed to outfit an entire army surplus store. There was so much stuff — uniforms, canteens, flashlights, radios, even jeeps — that it would take years for the U.S. government to dole it out to these middlemen, and even decades before these buyers could sell it off in their shops.

Thanks to the United States’ significant involvement in the Vietnam War, army surplus stores were able to restock their dwindling WWII inventory with updated military surplus. If you visited a surplus store as a kid in the 1980s or early ‘90s, a lot of the stuff you saw was probably from Vietnam.
While no single establishment was able to duplicate the enormity of Bannerman’s Army & Navy Outfitters, the period from after WWII and until the early 1990s could be considered the “Golden Age of Army Surplus Stores.” There was just so much stuff available, and it was so widely dispersed and easily accessible to the public. Instead of ordering something from a catalog, you just had to drive a few miles to one of the many surplus stores in your city.
But just as Bannerman’s military surplus business slowly faded away due to changing circumstances, so too has the large and thriving army surplus industry that existed in America for half a century. How that decline happened, we turn to next.

The Fall of the Army Surplus Store

Army surplus stores still exist. You probably have one in your city. But it’s probably not the same kind of army surplus store you may have visited back when you were a kid. If you’ve been to one recently, you likely noticed that fewer of the products they carried were actually “military surplus.” Sure, the stuff might look military-ish, but it was likely bought from a foreign company that manufactures military-ish products instead of from the U.S government, or even a foreign government. You’ll also see product in the store that you probably wouldn’t consider “military surplus” like work pants and shirts, consumer camping gear, etc. Basically, in today’s army surplus stores there’s less army surplus.
Two big factors are contributing to the decline of true military surplus products in the marketplace: the changing nature of war in the late 20th century and online shopping.
War has changed dramatically since Vietnam. Instead of engaging in large-scale conflicts that require a draft and many millions of boots on the ground, the U.S. military has shifted to a much more streamlined and surgical approach to battle — one that involves a smaller, all-volunteer force. For example, there were over 10 million American soldiers who served in Vietnam, while only 2.5 million served in the most recent wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Because our most recent conflicts have required fewer soldiers, the military has required less equipment. Because the army requires less equipment, there’s less military surplus to go around to all the army surplus stores around the country.
Compounding the shortage due to smaller, more limited military engagements is that — thanks to the internet — army surplus stores now have to compete with the government itself in selling surplus military inventory. The U.S. government has an online store where the public can buy military surplus direct, thus cutting out the army surplus middleman and saving the buyer some money. Thanks to competition from the government’s direct-to-consumer sales, army surplus storeowners have had to slash retail markups on their products from a stellar 100% to a ho-hum 30-50%.
Because of these two changes — streamlined wars and the internet — the once robust army surplus store industry has taken a hit. There’s just less inventory to go around, and less money to be made in the business.
To keep shelves stocked with military goods, even though there’s less government-issued military surplus available, stores have taken to importing military surplus “knockoff” products — stuff that looks like military surplus, but really isn’t. While these imported knockoffs have helped surplus stores stay alive, as Dr. Frank Arian, owner of Surplus Today, notes, this increase of imported military surplus knockoffs has hurt the brand cache of army-navy stores: “Imports have negatively affected business by diluting, to a large degree, the very foundation upon which these stores were built: genuine government military surplus. Imports are not government, not military and not surplus. Can you still call a store ‘surplus’ if it has 85% imported copies?”
Like any other industry that’s been disrupted, army surplus stores have made innovations to keep themselves afloat. For example, some stores have become airsoft gun dealers and even have airsoft courses inside or near their facilities. This business move has worked well for many of the stores who’ve done it. Diehard airsoft competitors can pick up a new gun and extra pellets while picking up cargo pants, gloves, and camo for their next competition too.
Other surplus stores have taken to offering various classes in their stores like wilderness or urban survival. These classes provide two sources of revenue. First, there’s the income from the class itself. Second is the revenue that comes from people buying stuff in the store when the classes are held.
Still other stores have shifted their focus from being military surplus dealers to antique military dealers. 20th-century military gear — once considered ordinary surplus — is now considered “vintage,” and collectors are willing to pay top dollar for these antiques. Army surplus stores that have been in business for awhile have used their networks developed over the years to become savvy peddlers of 20th-century military collectibles.
Stores that have made changes like these will likely survive and even thrive in today’s market; the stores that don’t, won’t. Army surplus stores will probably be with us for decades to come. They just won’t look like your grandpa’s surplus store, though they might still smell like it.

Monday Music "Disco Inferno" by the Trammmps

I am adjusting back to my nocturnal night shift existence.  The first couple of days I felt like a train wreck but I am feeling much better.  I was trying to get a post out yesterday for Monday Music but I was trying to do research on .38 special "caught up in you" and totally struck out on it.  I couldn't find anything and no video. I had to get ready for work so I shelved it.   Now back to this song, I remembered hearing this song on the "Saturday night fever" soundtrack and I would jam on the song.  I saw the video on "Solid Gold" and the video's back then were major live productions and it is nice to see that.  


"Disco Inferno" is a song by The Trammps from the album of the same name. With two other cuts by the group it reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart in early 1977, but had limited mainstream success in the U.S. until 1978, after being included on the soundtrack to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever, when a re-release hit number 11 on the Billboard Hot 100.

The song was originally recorded by The Trammps in 1976 and released as a single. It was inspired by a scene in the 1974 blockbuster film The Towering Inferno in which a discotheque is caught in the blaze. According to Tom Moulton, who mixed the record, the Dolby noise reduction had been set incorrectly during the mixdown of the tracks. When engineer Jay Mark discovered the error and corrected it, the mix had a much wider dynamic range than was common at the time. Due to this, the record seems to "jump out" at the listener. With "Starvin'" and "Body Contact Contract", it topped the U.S. Disco chart for six weeks in the late winter of 1977. On the other US charts, "Disco Inferno" hit number nine on the Black Singles chart, but it was not initially a significant success at pop radio, peaking at number fifty-three on the Billboard Hot 100.
"Disco Inferno" gained much greater recognition when the 10:54 minute album version was included on the soundtrack to the 1977 film Saturday Night Fever. Re-released by Atlantic Records, the track peaked at number eleven in the U.S. during the spring of 1978, becoming The Trammps' biggest and most-recognized single. Later, it was included in the Saturday Night Fever musical, interpreted by the 'DJ Monty' in the "Odissey 2001" discothèque.
The song also became an unofficial theme song for former New York Yankees outfielder Bernie Williams. It was often played at old Yankee Stadium while the scoreboard and video systems displayed the phrase "Bern Baby Bern", a play on the song's refrain and Williams' first name.
In 1996, "Disco Inferno" was included on the soundtrack to the cult comedy film Kingpin and featured in two pivotal scenes in which Roy Munson (played by Woody Harrelson) confidently strolls into a bowling alley. The song was also used in the trailer to the Adam Sandler comedy Bedtime Stories. In 2006, the extended version was featured on a remastered version of the Ghostbusters soundtrack.

Trust more then Hillary

  The pic was compliments of Irish, on 2 different days...The rant was something I used on a couple of post on Facebook when I got tired of the self important opinions of people that were dog piling on Trump and giving Cankles a pass.  Perhaps I got unfriended but at this stage I don't care.

So, Trump used some "locker room language" 11 years ago, in a private, all male group, when he was a private citizen.  Putting it into perspective, it's not like he compromised national security by using an illegal private server while in public office; left 4 men to die in Benghazi; perjured himself before congress; sold arms to ISIS; ran a pay-for-play scheme while in public office; trashed and harassed his spouse's rape victims; defrauded the earthquake victims in Haiti; stole property from the White House; was involved in Chinagate, Filegate, Travelgate, and White Water; was involved in illegal election fundraising; was involved in insider trading of cattle futures; hid and lied about his health while running for POTUS; is associated with the Muslim Brotherhood; and has left a trail of dead bodies behind him.  I ain't a fan of Trump but I even less of a fan of Hillary.

Coincidences...?non political snippits

I added a couple of links to the coincidence stories that has more information.

-Adopted at four weeks by different families, identical twins from Ohio were both given the name James. When they met for the first time at 39 they found both had married women called Linda, divorced them, then married women named Betty. Their sons were called James Alan and James Allan and both had owned dogs called Toy. Both went to law enforcement schools and worked as sheriffs.

-Lorraine and Levinia Christmas of Norfolk who both on the spur of the moment decided to drive to one another's houses to deliver presents on Christmas Eve 1994. The country road between their villages was precariously icy and both sisters were involved in a head-on crash... with each other. They ultimately spent Christmas in the same hospital as their father -Father Christmas- who was recovering from surgery.

-During WWI, the British army turned a passenger ship, the RMS Carmania, into a "Q" ship disguised as another passenger ship, the German SMS Trafalgar. Confused yet? It gets better. The disguised ship sank a German ship off Brazil in 1914. That ship was the real Trafalgar, which the Germans had disguised to look like the British Carmania.

-In a somewhat grisly coincidence, Barbara Forrest and Mary Ashford, were both victims of a similar crime committed in the tiny village of Erdington, five miles outside of Birmingham in England. Both twenty-year olds -who happened to share the same birthday- had been raped and strangled, their bodies were found 300 yards apart, and both had been found on the same day -May 27th- 157 years apart. Even more remarkable, both had just visited a friend that evening, both had changed into a new dress that night, and both had gone to a dance where they presumably met their killer. Also, the man accused in both crimes was named Thornton, and that both Thornton's were eventually acquitted for the crime.

-Hitler was born 129 years after Napoleon. He also came to power 129 years after Napoleon, invaded Russia 129 years after Napoleon, and was defeated 129 years after Napoleon.

-Monty Python star Eric Idle and Conservative politician John Major were both born on March 29, 1943. In 1993 Idle wrote to Major, then prime minister, to wish him a happy 50th birthday. "Has it ever occurred to you that, but for a twist of fate, I should be prime minister and you could have been the man in the Nudge Nudge sketch from Monty Python? I do hope you don't feel too disappointed. Happy birthday anyway".

-The first British soldier killed in WWII is buried only several meters from the last British soldier killed in WWII. This was not intentional.

-In 1980, Beatles singer, songwriter, and guitarist John Lennon was shot and killed by an obsessed fan in New York City. His assassin was a man named Mark Chapman, a schizophrenic night security guard and general loser. Five years later, NBC decided to make a biography about Lennon and his wife, entitled John and Yoko: A Love Story. Unfortunately, the actor they hired to play Lennon, unbeknownst to them, happened to be named Mark Chapman. After realising the fact, the studio quickly gave the part to someone with a different name.

-On the morning of November 22, 1963, Jackie Kennedy was unnerved by a full page ad placed in the Dallas Morning News. Not so much because it accused the president of being a communist sympathiser but rather because it had a black border and resembled a death notice. JFK tried to comfort her saying "We're heading to nut country today. But, Jackie, if somebody wants to shoot me from a window with a rifle nobody can stop it so why worry about it?" That Kennedy made such a comment about his assassination on the day he was shot is coincidence enough but that he so casually predicted the precise method of his death is nothing short of sinister.

-There were only two cars in the state of Ohio in 1895. They ran into each other. Then there were no cars.

-In 1858, Robert Fallon was shot dead, an act of vengeance by those with whom he was playing poker. Fallon, they claimed, had won the $600 pot through cheating. With Fallon's seat empty and none of the other players willing to take the now-unlucky $600, they found a new player to take Fallon's place and staked him with the dead man's $600. By the time the police had arrived to investigate the killing, the new player had turned the $600 into $2,200 in winnings. The police demanded the original $600 to pass on to Fallon's next of kin - only to discover that the new player turned out to be Fallon's son, who had not seen his father in seven years.

-Former British Prime Minister Edward Heath must have thought he was having a nightmare when he learned on September 4, 1974 that his yacht Morning Cloud III had been lost at sea en route to the Isle of Wight, just two days after a similar fate had befallen his former yacht Morning Cloud I. The previous week he had posed for a photo with author John Dyson at the launch of his thriller The Prime Minister's Boat Is Missing.

-In 1965, at the age of four, Roger Lausier was swimming off a beach in Salem. He got into difficulties and was saved from drowning by a woman called Alice Blaise. In 1974, on the same beach, Roger was out on a raft when he pulled a drowning man from the water - amazingly, the man he saved was Alice Blaise's husband.

-When Norman Mailer began his novel Barbary Shore, there was no plan to have a Russian spy as a character. As he worked on it, he introduced a Russian spy in the U.S. as a minor character. As the work progressed, the spy became the dominant character in the novel. After the novel was completed, the U.S. Immigration Service arrested a man who lived just one floor above Mailer in the same apartment building. He was Colonel Rudolf Abel, alleged to be the top Russian spy working in the U.S. at that time.

-In 1996, Paris police set out to investigate a late night, high speed car crash, both drivers had been killed instantly. Investigations revealed that the deceased were in fact man and wife. Police initially suspected some kind of murder or suicide pact but it became apparent that the pair had been separated for several months - neither could have known that the other would have been out driving that night.

-When JK Rowling needed to choose a birth date for Harry Potter it seemed natural enough that she would use her own birthday July 31. It was only many years later when she was tracing her maternal ancestry at a records office in Paris that she discovered that the grandfather she had never known had also been born on July 31.

Gun Control being refuted by an immigrant.

I came back from camping this weekend and ran a gun range for the boy scouts.  I will post pics either Wednesday or Thursday. 

    I remembered this a few years ago, there was a hearing involving AR-15's and gun control.  This happened right after Sandy Hook so the liberals were up in a tizzy. 

   This immigrant came up to speak and I am sure the liberals expected this person to toe the party line, but they were surprised.   This is what an immigrant looks like that has assimilated to American Culture.

Monday Music "Twilight Zone:" by Golden Earring.

I am putting this on the scheduler so I can get a couple in the cloud so if I am running late, it will automatically post.  I remembered this song on MTV, and I really liked it, It told a story and the video followed the song.  I would make parallels between the Western Nations and the Soviet Block with this video.   I remembered seeing the strange leather hats that the dancers wore and it wasn't until I went to Germany then to Holland and went Window Shopping that I saw the hats and remembered the strange hats from the video.   Funny what one recalls.  

"Twilight Zone" is a 1982 hit by the Dutch band Golden Earring. It was written by the band's guitarist George Kooymans, who got the inspiration from a book by Robert Ludlum, The Bourne Identity. "Twilight Zone" appears on their 1982 album Cut and pays tribute to the 1960s television series The Twilight Zone. It was the group's sole Top 10 Pop single on the US Billboard Hot 100 and hit No. 1 on the Billboard Top Album Tracks chart, the band's only No. 1 hit in America.
The spoken lines in the introduction and first verse (ending with "the gun is still warm") and the backing vocals in the chorus are performed by Barry Hay. Hay also sings lead on the second half of the verses. Kooyams sings the lead for the first half of the verses and the lead in the chorus.

The music video was one of the first to feature a cinematic storyline and dance choreography and was a hit on the fledgeling MTV network, helping the song to become the second international hit for the band. Golden Earring followed the success with an extensive tour of the USA, Canada and Europe. MTV commissioned the band to shoot a movie of the final 'homecoming' concert of the tour in the Netherlands. Why does the Left seem to win.....?

I saw this here and I had wondered "why does the left seem to win despite supporting the most morally bankrupt system in history, they seem to always come out on top.  I read this and it helped explain a bit of it.  I am sure there is more here than the article shows, but it is a start.    The pics are from google and my stash in my folder.

• The Left recognizes no distinction between war and peace. Rightists will never understand that for the Leftist, ideology is all. Since it must be right for them to feel good, any dissent or non-conformity is viewed as competition and rigorously pursued so the Leftist can feel good again. • Leftists base their self-image on total victory, not decency. Rightists like to think that they are appreciated for their strong, sober, wise and measured moral presence. In the future, if humanity survives, volumes will be written about the psychology of Leftism. It is an individualistic genre that manifests through collectivism because collectives are built around the idea of every individual having an equal part and reward. This creates a semi-suicidal mentality because life can only be lived through external factors, denying the inner parts of the human psychology, which creates robotic, zombie-like ideological warriors for whom life is misery and the only respite is found through destroying enemies.

I was at camp and ran across this picture and got a laugh out of it.  I tried to post it while I was at camp and wasn't able to pull up the picture in my gallery I had posted something a while back about the comparisons between the 3 rifles....almost like the thing I did with the smart phones, I gotta find that one and put it out there.  I have fired all three versions, and still own 2 versions.  I am sure people have seen this before, but I though it was good for a laugh.

There's an ever present, unending debate over which is best, ARs or AKs, raging across the internet and in gun shops every day sending bile and bitter insults spewing both ways. This debate has turned fathers against sons, best friends against one another, and........well you get the point. The author is of the opinion that there are of course pros and cons to each family of rifle, and I refuse to engage in what is "best". As one who loves them all, especially the AK and AR series, I thought I'd pass on some of the knowledge I have gained over the years concerning these wildly different weapons. As a bonus, I'll toss in my knowledge of another favorite family of weapons at the Bunker, just because they are very popular these days and I often ramble about them. So, here, for the aid of those hammering one another in the debate, is some unbiased, non-slanted, untainted raw knowledge about the AK, the AR, and the Mosin Nagant.

Monday Music "She's a beauty" by the Tubes

I have been very busy this past weekend, I will post more details probably tomorrow if not Tomorrow, then Thursday for sure.  I should call this "Tuesday Music" as my luck has been that way.  but Monday seems to sing better.  Well anyway, I remembered this video making the circuits on MTV, and I liked it, probably something about the girls I am sure.  I haven't seen the video in a long time...until I pulled it up on youtube for this post....

"She's a Beauty" is a song by American rock band The Tubes. Released in 1983 on The Tubes' album Outside Inside from Capitol Records, the song became the band's biggest hit. It went to number 10 on the Billboard U.S. Hot 100 list, and number 1 on the Billboard U.S. Mainstream Rock Tracks list which charts the frequency of songs played on mainstream rock stations.

The popularity of "She's a Beauty" was largely driven by a narrative music video  that became a staple of then-fledgling MTV. This video was directed by Kenny Ortega, also the choreographer of The Tubes' stage shows. Ortega achieved greater success choreographing movies such as Dirty Dancing and Ferris Bueller's Day Off, and as a director with High School Musical and its sequels.
In the video, The Tubes' lead singer Fee Waybill plays a carnival barker who extols a crowd with the virtues of a sideshow attraction:

He takes money from a young boy who then rides a carnival car through hallucinogenic scenes of a mermaid, female trapeze artist, prehistoric women dressed in furs, and others. At the end of the video we see the boy exiting the ride aged to an old man, the message apparently being the financial and emotional cost of falling in love with but being unable to obtain his heart's desire.

Things about NCIS(TV) that ain't common knowledge...

One of my favorite shows is NCIS and I have been a fan almost since its inception.  I have used several of Gibbs Rules and listening to "Your Gut".   I am wanting to post political stuff but I decided to pass and stick to humorous stuff.  I am suffering from political burnout, it doesn't help that I am on dayshift and working on 12 hour shifts.   It is temporary thing so I will roll with it.   I saw a link on this while surfing "Drudge".

For 13 seasons, NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) has dominated as one of the most popular action police procedural series on TV in an ever-growing genre. Since beginning in 2003, it has become a ratings darling and has spawned two spin-offs which are gaining their own fanbases thanks to the popularity of the original show. A lot goes into a series of its size, and the cast becomes like family after spending so much time together. Check out 10 things you never knew about NCIS:

10. Playing Themselves

It is always important for actors and actresses to be convincing when playing a character, and that is always easier when they can really connect with the character they portray. As a result, NCIS uses a lot of the actor’s own histories and qualities for that of the characters. For example, Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby, really did graduate from college with a degree in Forensics, and was born in New Orleans, just as Abby was. Producers have said many times that many of Abby’s qualities, interests and personality are really just Perrette “playing herself.” Meanwhile, Michael Weatherly, who plays Tony DiNozzo, was was disinherited from his family’s fortune just like his character. Apparently his dad didn’t like that he was going to pursue an acting career!

9. Casting

Although NCIS has a fantastic cast, they could have had one more big name on their list. According to reports ,Jennifer Aniston was interested in the role of Kate, but in order for Aniston to be a part of the show, production on NCIS would have to had wait until she had finished filming the final season of Friends and they decided not to postpone their schedule. As well, when the series first started being put together, Harrison Ford was in a quiet time in his career and was urged to pursue the role of Gibbs, but he chose not to, so the role went to Mark Harmon instead. Subsequently, Harrison Ford and his film Air Force One were name-dropped in the first episode by Gibbs.

8. Name Debacle

With many police procedural shows already going by acrononyms, such as CSI, it would be easy enough to have called NCIS just that. Instead, before the launch of the first season, the show was titled, Naval CIS, and then when it aired it was under the name Navy NCIS which stuck for the entire first season. Eventually CBS decided it was too redundant as the N stands for Naval anyway.

7. In The Family

In some episodes, there are shots of flashbacks featuring a young Gibbs played by Mark Harmon, and in order to make sure they actually looked similar, the younger version is portrayed by Mark Harmon’s real son, Sean. Meanwhile, Troian Bellisario, who plays Sarah McGee, is the daughter of NCIS producer and creator Don Bellisario, and his son Michael Bellisario took on the role of Charles “Chip” Sterling.

Surprisingly, at first, ratings for NCIS were relatively low, and in the first four seasons, they rarely even made the Top 30, but things changed drastically in season six. 5.  The Birthday Party

Back in 2005, the set turned into a giant birthday party for Mark Harmon’s 54th birthday. He specifically asked that a big deal was not made out of his big day, so of course the exact opposite happened. Lauren Holly was new to the cast and was always on the receiving end of Harmon’s practical jokes, so she teamed up with Michael Weatherly to make Harmon’s birthday huge. She ordered 150 t-shirts reading “It’s Mark Harmon’s Birthday” and passed them out to the entire crew. After Harmon had gone home, they covered his trailer with decorations, balloons and pinatas. When Harmon got to set the next day seeing everyone wearing matching shirts and holding signs, he thought there had been a strike.

4. Crew Changes

Back in May of 2007, at the end of season four, reports stated that creator Donald Bellisario was stepping down from the show. Quickly after it was reported that the reason was because of disagreements with star Mark Harmon. As a result, his role as showrunner/head writer was delegated to a group of long time collaborators on the show. Later, Gary Glasberg was added as the series showrunner because Shane Breennan had to focus on the new spin-off, NCIS: Los Angeles. In April 2016, the show’s long-time director revealed he had directed his final episode of NCIS, but did not specify which episode it is.

3. Lawsuit

Speaking of NCIS: Los Angeles, it didn’t take long after Shane Brennan created the show and began to put it together before he ran into trouble. In April 2011, Don Bellisario sued CBS over NCIS: Los Angeles. His suit was because of a contract he had with CBS which gave him the “first opportunity” to develop a spin-off or sequel as the initial creator of NCIS. By June 2012, the lawsuit was dismissed while discussions between CBS and Bellisario continued, and settled their dispute without releasing the terms.

2. Sasha Alexander

Sasha Alexander starred on NCIS as Caitlin Todd for the first two seasons and then went to a recurring role for seasons 3, 8, 9, and 12, and fans were very upset by her exit. While rumors indicated she had been fired, it was later discovered that she was the one who wanted to leave the show. According to Alexander, filming the series was especially exhausting, and she couldn’t handle it anymore. After her exit, Don Bellisario revealed he had intended to build on Tony and Kate’s relationship, which fans really wanted.

Despite trying to portray realistic characters and situations, as with every TV show, some things have to be a bit more glamorous. For example, the Dodge Chargers that the Navy Department agents use are a color called Deep Water Blue. Monday Music "Give it up" by KC and the Sunshine Band

I have been working the OT again, the powers that be wanted me to go to Day-shift for the next 3 weeks for a special project....ehhh on Day-shift.   I much prefer Night-shift.    I decided to roll with some KC and the sunshine band,  The band hit it really big in the late 70's.  I still have a couple of their albums on vinyl in my record collection.  I tell people that I still like Disco but I like 80's music more :) 

"Give It Up" was a hit song for KC and the Sunshine Band, although it was simply credited as KC in many countries, including the US. Following the backlash against many disco artists on the charts at the beginning of the 1980s, the song was a comeback hit for the act in the US, where it peaked at No. 18 on the Billboard Hot 100 in March 1984. The song had been an even bigger hit in the UK several months earlier, where it had hit No. 1 for three weeks in August 1983. It went on to become the 18th best-selling single of the year in the UK. It was the last of the act's hits in the US and UK, and the most successful of its 10 UK hits.

Possible results of forthcoming election....

  I have been busy with work the past few days and haven't had time to post anything.   I read this several days ago taking a break working on the airplane, it resonated something with me so I decided to copy and paste it on my blog.  I don't agree with all his assertions but he did bring a lot of salient points.   I truly fear for the survival of my country and the possible future my son will inherit.   I do know that things are rapidly coming to a boil, people are really pissed and in the past, the voting was a safety valve, but the next election is soo polarizing people will not back down.  I know that the people supporting Trump are tired of backing down again and again and they feel that they are against the wall.  The forces of the left has pushed far past the breaking point the  3rd Newton law of motion will come into play...

For every action there is an equal and opposite re-action.

What does this mean?

This means that for every force there is a reaction force that is equal in size, but opposite in direction. That is to say that whenever an object pushes another object it gets pushed back in the opposite direction equally hard. 

 

I wonder how long before the pushback happens.....I really don't want a civil war in this country but e have been soo polarized the past 8 years, I don't know if this is be design of Obama and Alensky and the other radicals.   They have forgotten that we the "dirt people" also have a say and they will not like it.

If Trump wins, the left goes full terror

As I've publicly predicted numerous times over the last year, if Donald Trump wins, the radical extreme leftists go on a violent rampage that leads to the rest of us begging for martial law. After half a dozen cities burn with riots and looting, Trump invokes a national emergency, deploying National Guard troops across the most devastated urban areas, and the radical left finds itself in a shooting war with the government.

If Hillary Clinton wins, all the Trump supporters who have been violently assaulted, spat upon and physically attacked by the radical left un-holster their concealed weapons and start shooting back. This quickly escalates into open warfare between lunatic leftist Hillary supporters and armed Trump "Second Amendment" people who basically figure they've got nothing left to lose anyway, so why not fight to save America?

For now, for the sake of their political movement and the candidacy of Donald Trump, they do not strike back...

But what happens after the election? It matters not who wins. If Hillary Clinton is elected, by hook or by crook, the mass movement harnessed by Donald Trump will be free to respond to physical attacks. If Donald Trump wins the Presidency, there will similarly be no reason to continue to endure physical attacks and humiliations by the street thugs of the Democrats. Whether Trump or Hillary Clinton is in the White House, there will be no reason to hold back.

Hundreds of millions of guns across America are now in the hands of people who are fed up with being stomped on, ridiculed and marginalized by a corrupt leftist regime that's destroying America

Do the math on this one: You've got 44% of U.S. households that now own guns (and not just one gun each, but several different types of guns). Over the last 8 years, President Obama's anti-gun rhetoric has resulted in the largest surge of gun sales to private citizens ever recorded in American history. As a result of Obama's criminal efforts to try to destroy the Second Amendment via false flag operations such as Operation Fast and Furious, more Americans than ever now own battle rifles such as ARs, AKs and PTR 91s.

People bought all these guns for a reason. And they sure didn't buy them just to turn them over to a corrupt criminal government.

What the author is saying is, essentially, America is quite likely just 70 days away from the start of the next revolution... or even events that could escalate into Civil War.

A Hillary victory would set off an immediate popular revolt

If Hillary wins the election, it's hard not to imagine some sort of popular revolt across America as the citizens reject the obvious criminality and corruption of not just the Clinton crime family but also a complicit mainstream media. The same media that has funneled millions of dollars into the Clinton Foundation also intentionally downplays all the Clinton scandals. The entire system is a corrupt, incestuous, rigged f--kfest that benefits the deceitful plutocrats whom the voters are sick and tired of seeing remain in power.

As world history teaches us, it would only take a tiny fraction of the American people marching on Washington to overthrow the corrupt regime and install a new interim government while arresting the mainstream journalists and calling for new, open elections. So much of America is already at the breaking point now that such a move would very likely enjoy widespread support from the population at large.

Such actions are far more common than you might suspect in other countries around the world. When the masses reach their limit on corruption and criminality at the highest levels of government, history has shown they frequently march on the capitol, arrest the traitors, and install new officials to run the government. Sometimes, these people end up being dictators or tyrants who make things worse, so such actions should never be taken lightly. Revolt should only be the very last, reluctant option after every legal, democratic method of restoring the law has been attempted and denied.

If any of this sounds surprising to you, you probably need to study world history and read about the French Revolution, the Bolivar campaign across South America, the Fidel Castro takeover of Cuba, the CIA-instigated revolutions of Central and South American nations, the Cultural Revolution of China, and of course the American Revolution. If you don't know anything about history, then you have no clue how history reliably repeats itself as human populations re-experience the same tyrannies, the same political deceptions and the same inner call for freedom that our ancestors already lived through (or died for).

If Trump wins, the globalist banksters crash the debt bubble to unleash mass chaos

Now let's shift gears and explore what happens if Trump wins the election. The day after the election results show Trump to be the clear winner, radical leftists break out into mass protests across America. But Obama is still in power at this point, and Trump won't actually occupy the White House until early 2017. So for the remainder of 2016, Obama will open the borders wide open and even encourage as many illegals as possible to invade the USA in a final "mad dash" to the USA.

Very soon after Trump takes office, the globalist criminal bankers will deliberately crash the global debt bubble so they can blame it all on Trump. Supported by the lying, wholly dishonest propaganda media (CNN, WashPost, NY Times, etc.), global info-terrorists like George Soros will call for Trump's impeachment.

Trump, in turn, will likely call upon "Second Amendment people" to defend America against the globalist attempts to bring it down and destroy his presidency. This situation quickly escalates into a variety of skirmishes across America, which might include many events that could seem unimaginable today: Armed patriots taking over mainstream media broadcast centers, leftist terrorists bombing federal buildings, a rash of sudden "suicides" of high-level Trump loyalists, organized gang assaults on local police stations, the United Nations unleashing "blue helmet" troops on U.S. soil, a "surge invasion" of illegal aliens from Mexico during a time of national vulnerability, international cyber attacks on America's power grid infrastructure, and even widespread calls for states like Texas to secede from the union.

Once the globalists declare open warfare against the Trump administration, all bets are off and anything could unfold over the next few years. Expect things to get very nasty, very desperate and incredibly violent. Life as you know it in America is about to be disrupted in a serious way.

By the way, I also predict that Edward Snowden, Julian Assange and Anonymous will all play key roles in these unfolding events, exposing mind-blowing government secrets that spur populations across many western nations into escalating their action against the corrupt government regimes they've foolishly allowed to rule over them. Much of the real war taking place across our globe right now is a cyber war... a "war of secrets" where the hackers and cyber activists are increasingly exposing all the corruption and criminality of governments, which maintain their power by constantly lying to the public and withholding the truth.

The political establishment as we know it today will not survive intact

When it's all said and done, if Trump wins the presidency, the political establishment as we know it today will be obliterated on multiple levels. For starters, the people have already lost faith in the establishment system, and if things escalate, it's not difficult to envision a near future where Hillary Clinton is imprisoned while people like Huma, Lynch and Eric Holder are tried for treason.

Even if Clinton does win the election and occupy the White House, the global end game is fast approaching anyway. A Clinton White House only further encourages the calls for revolt across the population, and Hillary's deep corruption and criminality is so despised by nearly all soldiers and police officers that it's hard to imagine her being able to demand respect from either of those groups. In fact, it's a lot easier to imagine a military coup against President Clinton that it is to imagine a successful eradication of the Second Amendment by her presidency. Even if Clinton ordered police across America to go door to door and confiscate all the firearms of private citizens, what cop would be stupid enough to even attempt such a suicide mission?

I can't overstate this point: Things are at a breaking point in America, and the only thing holding back a mass revolt right now is the looming election, which presents at least a glimmer of hope to the people of America that they might beat back tyranny and government oppression with a Trump victory. If that possibility is taken from them -- either by the election being stolen at the ballot box or already pre-stolen by outrageously biased media deceptions -- many of them will conclude that they really have no remaining option other than "refreshing the Tree of Liberty with the blood of patriots and tyrants", to quote Jefferson.

America has nearly reached the fulcrum of rebellion

What Washington elites utterly fail to realize is that for many Americans, they have nothing else left to lose if they lose this election. They've already lost their job and their health coverage. In many places across America, they're losing their own national flag and national pride. They've been ridiculed, condemned and spat upon by the dishonest media and the crybully leftist f--ktards, and they realize full well that if they don't draw a line in the sand right here, right now, they're going to be disarmed, enslaved, impoverished and named "enemies of the state" in the very same country they once fought for (and pledged allegiance to).

The psyche of real America has reached its last straw. With the culture under attack, the Constitution demonized, religious beliefs targeted for merciless condemnation and the industrial base of America utterly gutted beyond restoration, there is nothing left to surrender to the demands of the tyrannical left. It is at that breaking point where, in the minds of many citizens throughout history, they pick up pitch forks and march en masse against the oppressors in power.

We are very, very close to that day in America. It may, in fact, unravel in just the next 100 days. No matter who wins this election, mass violence breaks out across America in one way or another.

Never hope for Civil War... be careful what you ask for

Remember: Civil War would be a disaster for America, which is one reason why globalists like George Soros are pushing so hard for it. We should never wish for open bloodshed and nationwide chaos.

The last civil war was disastrous for the US – not just in lives and destruction of property, but in turning what had been a truly positive political structure instantly into something much more corrupt. I see no reason to think that another civil war won't do the same.

Yes, we are being pushed towards another civil war quite deliberately. Resist the push. Figure out the real problem and go after it. I do not know exactly what the problem is, but it certainly seems to be a small group of fantastically wealthy and evil people who are using the rest of us like a sociopathic 10-year-old might fry ants. These people need to be identified and blocked from power. Soros seems to be a prominent person among them, but the various other usual suspects seem likely to be the problem as well.

Questions to ask yourself in all this

How will you feed yourself if social chaos halts food deliveries to your local grocers?

Do you possess a means of self-defense that does not depend on dialing 911 and praying somebody shows up to save you?

Do you live within walking distance of the inner cities? If so, prepare to be overrun by raging, violent, angry extremists who respect no law and actually murder police every chance they get.

Do you depend on financial payments from the federal government? How would you survive if those payments stop coming?

If you own firearms, do you know how to use them effectively and safely? When was the last time you practiced with them, or cleaned them? Do you have spare parts? Ammo? Cleaning supplies? When was the last time you checked the battery on your red dot sight?
