Oh Deer......

It is hunting season and the Deer are in rut so you find them everywhere........Including interstates......:(

This was my paid for 2005 Focus ST......Now I gotta look for another car...probably another Focus.   Considering the speed I was traveling and the size.....He was huge.   I am very lucky to walk away from that one.   All I suffered was a bruise on my leg...and finding glass in all the strange places....like ear...pockets....hair....I ain't complaining though....the alternative is worse.   Now I am driving my Ranger while I car shop after the insurance company settles.

  3. Glad you're okay! Hitting ANY animal is messy, but at least it didn't come in the car with you.

  4. You are very lucky. Hope you get a good settlement. We moved to the NoCa Foothills in '96 and each car had/has a deer dent in it. I have had people stop me in parking lots asking if I would like to have the dent(s) popped out, for a small fee, and I always reply politely and refuse. I know that the minute my car is "whole" again, some sweet young thing is going to ambush me somewhere and smile and tell me I wasted my money! :)

  5. I hope so also. I have USAA insurance so I hope I do alright. I have been internet shopping for newer cars, I am trying to minimize any note I may have to get. Gotta be a Ford though....;)

  6. Given the speed you drive it wouldn't matter much the size of the deer, the impact will be impressive.

  7. Hi Shelldude,
Well it was a big deer, the auto adjuster saw the car and commented that "The car is totaled and it was the worse deer damage he has ever seen and have no fatalities." I have to wait for the claims dept to get back with me. I have spotted a newer Focus, so we will see. I will give you a call in a day or 3 and see how it goes.

  8. Hmmmm..........I guess maybe I'll need to slow down on those country roads at O'dark thirty AM on the way to work.

  9. Slow down and keep your eyes open VERY wide, Kurt. I've known a half-dozen people who collided with deer and Bob is only the second to walk away unscathed. The first was nearly thirty years ago. The odds are definitely against such.
